Since the beginning of time, there have been two kinds of men. Those who have power, and those who doesn’t. Those who have wealth, and those who doesn’t. Those who have strength, and those who doesn’t.
It is not my place to discuss if this is right, or even fair… it just happens. Whatever the reason, some people are “blessed”, and some people are not… In fact, most people don’t have this “gift”… and that’s exactly the problem, and here’s why:
ECONOMY 101: In order to succeed in any commercial activity you need two main assets: RESOURCES and PEOPLE. “resources” buy the infrastructure, put the business to work, etc. Plain and simple. But the real engine of any business, is the people itself. Every company is a huge man-powered vehicle, and sadly, men’s blood is the gasoline.
Now, capitalism works like this: Many people work together to make some kind of profit, but the distribution is VERY unfair. The people how put the resources at the beginning, get most of the profit, while the people who run the business, get the least. Nowadays these people are called “owners” and “employees”, but In fact, these are synonyms for another two words we used long time ago: MASTERS and SLAVES.
Let’s think for a minute how slavery used to work: The Masters (rich people) used to own other human beings (slaves). Slaves used to work for their masters. (and pay attention to this: old days masters were business owners as well, and they needed people to work for them… just like it happens in our time). In exchange, masters provided slaves with rudimentary places to live, and fed them on daily basis. Slaves didn’t have the means to make their living by themselves, so, they needed someone else to provide this basic things for them.
What went wrong? Well… many things. To begin with, slaves began to question themselves… “We are the pillars of this business/house/field, and yet, we get nothing”. Masters also abused the slaves, which made things worse… But these two things still happen nowadays… so, what was the real catalyst?
Here it is: The main problem was that the slaves were bound to obey. They didn’t have a choice. They were bought and put to work, just like that.
Well, you all know what happened. Many slaves rebelled, killed their masters, and earned their freedom… So, powerful people had to abolish slavery since the system had become obsolete.
But the problem remained. They still needed people to work for them, the only difference was that now, they couldn’t force them…
Somehow, they stumbled upon a solution whereby 99% of the subjects accepted the new policy as long as they were given a choice, even if they were only aware of the choice at a near unconscious level… And that’s how modern slavery began.
They invented some paper they called “MONEY”, which in turn they gave to the modern slaves in exchange for they work. With this “money”, slaves were able to get rudimentary places to live and feed themselves on daily basis. (sounds familiar?). The masters (now owners) still get most of the profit, while the slaves (now employees) get the crumbs. The masters still abuse the slaves, and the slaves are still the pillars of the business. Sadly, almost nothing changed.
Why don’t they rebel, you may ask…? Well, in fact they do: This is part of the choice they were given. They can “QUIT” their job. But wait… I DID say they can’t live by their own, didn’t I? So, they have to found a new “master” to take care of them… Basically, the choice they have, is to change one master for another. And since many people need to make their living, the system works flawlessly. If a master loses a slave, a another slave will take his place in no time. That’s the beauty of it, they play with our most powerful instinct: The survival instinct. We do ANYTHING to survive. We are capable of selling our soul… and sadly, that’s what most of us have to do. So, the real question here is: Do we really have a choice, or the choice that we were given is just an illusion?
Have you ever thought what would happen if every “modern” slave stop serving their current master and don’t take a new one? What would happen to masters? What would happen to economy? Perhaps, (just perhaps) they would have to reinvent the system once again, like they did long time ago… Perhaps, this time they would have to give the slaves more than a illusory choice…
